BB CREAM, CC CREAM, DD CREAM?
I’ve had lots of people ask me what the difference is between BB cream, CC cream and DD cream. The world of makeup can often be a labyrinth to navigate, so let’s start with the basics. All three creams help you cover blemishes, freckles and other imperfections, in the same way that foundation works. Contrary to foundation, however, these creams are lighter and provide more natural coverage that can enhance your own complexion. Each cream variant has unique properties and functions. Here’s how to tell them apart:
BB CREAM (BEAUTY BALM)
Consistency : Medium
BB cream is my personal favourite and the eldest member of the family of creams. Beauty balm cream goes a step further than a tinted day cream, offering sun protection, anti-ageing properties and providing extra moisture for your skin. Use it as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, your anti-ageing creams or serum. If you are looking for light coverage that can cover blemishes and scars, then BB cream is by far your best bet.
CC CREAM (COLOUR CORRECTOR)
Consistency : Light
BB’s tweaked cousin, CC cream, contains some of the same key elements that enhance your skin care (moisture, primer, serum and sunscreen). However, CC creams up the ante and focus more on skin care. Their focus is on smoothening skin tones, lightening redness and illuminating complexion. For this reason, skin conditions such as acne and freckles can be covered using CC creams. Some studies (such as those by the British Journal of Dermatology show that consistent use of CC creams can correct skin discoloration within 6-8 weeks.
DD CREAM (DAILY DEFENCE)
Consistency: Medium
Daily defence cream, also known as dynamic, do-all cream, has a consistency that resembles that of BB cream. Its properties are a combination of those of its predecessors. Whilst DD creams were originally developed for other skin areas such as the knees, feet and elbows, in recent years they have developed into a product that works well on the face.
