Pantone 2017 Inspired Nail Polishes

By Miss Makeup Magpie
'Greenery' was announced as the official Pantone colour for 2017, so today we've rounded up our edit of wearable yet affordable green nail polishes.

Every single year, Pantone choose a specific colour to be the 'Pantone Color of the Year' which is then used in a variety of industries such as printing, paint and fabrics. The Pantone colour of the year for 2016 was a powdery blue named Serenity and a baby pink named Rose Quartz, and for 2017 the colour is 'Greenery'. The Greenery shade was chosen to symbolise new beginnings and is said to evoke the image of the first days of Spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. Let's face it...the weather is pretty depressing right now with plummeting temperatures and persistent drizzle so I decided I needed an injection of colour and brightness within my daily routine to help me feel revitalised. In a bid to inject some much needed zest, I've chosen five wearable green nail polishes to help you embrace the Pantone Greenery Color of the Year for 2017.

Pantone describe Greenery as a versatile 'trans-seasonal' shade which compliments neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels and metallics. I have always loved the colour green as I find it to be somewhat of an happy colour, but it can be a touch intimidating especially where beauty is concerned. There are so many different shades of green to choose from with hues such as khaki, teal, jade and emerald and I personally really enjoy embracing the colour green on my nails as it's non-committal and an instant mood enhancer.

Barry M Sunset Nail Polish

The Barry M Daylight Curling Nail Paints were created to deliver the look and resilience of professional salon gel nails without the inconvenience of using a UV lamp or their costly upkeep. The Daylight Curing range don't need to be used with a base coat as they supposedly have one built into the formula to protect the nails and allow the colour to bond. For best results, Barry M recommend using the Daylight Curing Nail Paints alongside their Daylight Curing Top Coat but I've found the polish to perform absolutely fine without the matching gel topcoat.

Empire State of Mint is the perfect mint shade which looks quite bold on the nails and would almost certainly flatter tanned skin due its white base so I intend on wearing it on my toes throughout the summer as I know it'll look pretty when wearing sandals. The formula is fantastic with one of the best polish formulas I've tried with full opacity in two thin coats and once dried it has a super shiny gel-like glossiness which would rival salon manicures. There are a lot of nail polish ranges on the market which claim to have a 'gel' formula but they rarely even come close to a genuine gel manicure, but the Barry M Daylight Curing Nail Paints are the best drugstore gel-like polishes I've tried.

Essie Nail Polish

Viva Antigua! launched as part of the Essie Summer 2016 Collection and is described as being a 'iridescent crystalline turquoise'. Viva Antigua! instantly reminds me of crystal Caribbean waters especially as it contains the prettiest micro shimmer which really does mimic the beautiful sheen from the sun reflecting off the ocean. I sometimes experience a little patchiness when it comes to polishes that are shot through with micro shimmer but Viva Antigua! is easily the best Essie polish I've tried and is very nearly fully opaque and streak-free in one single coat. I like my polishes to look as vivid as possible on the nails so I used two coats which I found really intensified the stunning shimmer and I didn't have any staining whatsoever when using the polish either.

My other Essie nail polish is from their 2016 Bridal Collection and I think it might be my ultimate favourite from the five polishes I've chosen. Essie Passport to Happiness is the prettiest, pale mint green which is shot through with a subtle silver shimmer. If green really isn't your colour or you're unsure whether you can pull off the other four shades, Passport to Happiness is a great option as it's a more delicate nod to the green trend which looks extremely sleek on the nails. Not only is the shade itself a stunner, but the formula is a winner too with just two easy coats needed but it does dry down to a satin finish so I'd recommend topping it with a glossy topcoat to get the most out of the stunning shimmer shift.

Barry M Gelly Nail Polish

I have to be honest and admit I've not had the best luck with the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints but the colours within the Gelly range keep me coming back for more. I really couldn't resist adding Kiwi to my collection as it's the boldest, brightest jade which just reminds me of warmer climes. The formula wasn't flawless nor was it awful either and I would recommend applying three to four thin coats for the best finish as the formula is a little thicker than other polishes but the extra effort is worth it as the colour is so intense. On the nails I find that Essie Viva Antigua! and Barry M Kiwi are quite similar shade wise except Viva Antigua! obviously has the shimmer element but they're both such smile inducing shades which is exactly what we need when the weather is so miserable.

Ciate Nail Polish

This polish pick is very different from the rest but I couldn't help myself from including it within the lineup as it is so unique and I have a little soft spot for the Ciaté Paint Pot Nail Polishes. The packaging of the Ciaté Paint Pots is simply adorable with their mini satin bows and long, elegant handles. Ciaté Mojito is almost a chartreuse green shade which isn't going to be for everyone but it reminds me of a sweet and sour Granny Smith apple which can be intensified further by applying a coat of white before applying Mojito to make the colour pop even more. All of the Ciaté polishes I've tried have had impeccable formulas and Mojito is no different with an easy to apply, self levelling formula which dries quickly too. I really like how much of a statement shade Mojito is and I bet it would look really striking if it had gold glitter topcoats layered over the top for extra dimension.

So they are our five wearable yet budget friendly green nail polishes which are inspired by Pantone's 'Greenery' Color of the Year. I'd love to know which is your favourite?
